Un peu de tendresse bordel de merde
(A little tenderness for crying out loud!)
Thu 26 - Sat 28 Apr 2012 7.30pm
Theatre £18 (£16), £21 (£19), £24 (£22), Under 26s £12 (+ booking fee)
Twenty naked dancers explore our constant need for love and tenderness in this striking, chaotic and transfixing international production.
Using humour and intimate antics to tackle taboo subjects the show shifts between moments of shocking hilarity to raw scenes that are heartbreakingly emotional.
Human beings are stupid. They always fall foolishly in love, knowing full well that the separation they will no doubt experience will crush them. More moronic than ever, however, they set off madly in search of tenderness.
As the dancers leap with primal urgency, or lie crumpled and defeated on the ground, a narrator leads the audience on a journey towards a breathtakingly beautiful and moving finale.
Branded the ‘enfant terrible’ of his generation, award-winning Canadian choreographer Dave St-Pierre has been a major force on the contemporary dance scene for over five years and has provoked comparisons with Pina Bausch’s theatre of cruelty.
Described by one critic as “truly remarkable and not to be missed” and by another as “a heap of ordure so ripe you could fertilise your petunias with it”, this outrageously funny show has certainly provoked opinion.
“There are moments of beauty … and a genuine humour that is rare in contemporary dance.” The Stage

After visiting today to see the above production I was outraged at the levels of pornography and total chaos of the show. I consider myself a liberal person and have seen many productions with challenging content, yet this production pushed my boundaries. To have person thrust their anus and penis in my face and that of other around me was just to much. This show is of very poor tast and I would recommend nobody take their 16 year old to see. Admitedly, you have provided a warning, but this warning is not adequate as this goes beyond levels of decency. Very unhappy

If you were that unhappy you should have left. No one was stopping you. You were warned several times of the nudity and audience interaction as well as the company having the negative reviews featured in their promotion. You chose to go, deal with it.
I think this was the most amazing show I've ever seen. In a show about tenderness and intimacy how could they not break the fourth wall I don't know. The dancing was beautiful, and anyone who was offended clearly didn't get that it was about boundaries and breaking them in relationships. If you trusted that they wouldn't do anything too intrusive then it wasn't uncomfortable at all.
5* and I'd see it again today if I could.

I agree with Catrin
What an amazing production
Funny, thought provoking, bleak, enriching, erotic and challenging
(perhaps without the "wave")
thank you all who made this possible
