Alex Wilson's Jazz Trio
Wed 7 Nov 7.45pm

Musicians: Alex Wilson, Frank Tontoh, Davide Mantovani
Alex Wilson is a brilliantly gifted Latin jazz pianist and band leader. Well known for his large ensembles, he was recently acclaimed for his ‘Mali Latino’ project which headlined at the London Jazz Festival and topped the Songlines World Album of the Year chart.
As well as releasing his own sizzling Afro-Cuban albums on the Candid label and performing with Courtney Pine’s band, Jazz Jamaica, 2011 saw him produce and record Rodrigo y Gabriela’s latest album ‘Area 52’ which he has been performing around the world on their sell out tour.
This fantastic new trio brings the music back to the piano with a fresh repertoire. The music is driven by Alex’s inimitable piano style steeped in the Afro-Cuban/Caribbean tradition. Drummer Frank Tontoh has played with a wide array of jazz stars, plus world music champions such as Osibisa and Soothsayers. Davide Mantovani is a regular bass player for Monica Vasconcelos, Ingrid Laubrock, Ian Carr’s Nucleus and Antonio Forcione amongst many others.
