After three years of working with thousands of young men, our Boys Dancing project is heading to a close – as the wonderful financial support we’ve had from Dancing For The Games and Arts Council England ends in September. But we are making the most of these last few weeks by creating unique film works and a celebratory live event.
The Quiet Man Suite is made up of six short dance films made by hundreds of lads across the West Midlands with our fantastic team of dancers, film makers, composers and dance apprentices. We’ve just shot the final one with lads from Sandwell on location at Fort Dunlop – refer to the picture from the roof of this iconic building! The other five films are nearing completion as the film makers and composers put the final touches to editing and the score. Within the next month we’ll have 7 premieres across the region with the boys, their families and friends seeing the final works for the first time and celebrating their achievements.
Our live event is in the Warwick Arts Centre Theatre on the evening of Fri 29 Jun at 7pm with a selection of newly created live dance from across the West Midlands – plus a surprise or two (just keep your fingers crossed for dry weather. That’s all I’m saying.)
You’re welcome to join us – please book your tickets at our Box Office on 024 7652 4524. Tickets are £3.50 each.
This remarkable period of creativity may be coming to an end but we are determined to continue working with boys and dance – we’ve seen how inspiring and exciting the work can be. So watch this space – we’ll be back!
(In the meantime, check out the trailer below for the Cultural Olympiad in the West Midlands featuring our Boys Dancing as well as another project we were involved with – Ping! Great stuff!)
