The bookies should be happy with the results from the Oscars as there were no alarms and no surprises.
The headline news is ‘French film wins 5 Oscars’! OK, it is silent and about Hollywood but let’s not quibble.
Awards watchers are probably still a bit baffled by the inclusion of Albert Nobbs but I can reassure you that it will get a UK release at the end of April and will be arriving ‘at a cinema near you’ in early May.
A Separation walked off with Best Film not in English, which seems like ancient history now, having screened belatedly in September and also Beginners which delighted audiences that sought it out when it played in August. But Christopher Plummer, you see? Trust me! Ewan McGregor plays comedy quite sweetly (see also Salmon Fishing in the Yemen – also in May) and the delightful Mélanie Laurent who features in Les Adoptés, screening at the end of April.
