Elektro Kif After-Show Event
Monday 20 February 2012
This March, ground-breaking contemporary dance takes centre stage at Warwick Arts Centre, with the arrival of choreographer Blanca Li and her dazzling new show Elektro Kif. Elektro Kif is the first new dance to come out of France since the Can-Can! Electro was born in the nightclubs and on the streets of the suburbs of Paris – it’s a furious mix of b-boying, vogueing, popping and locking but with a unique flavour of its own.
Early this year Li launched a competition in conjunction with the Southbank Centre in London, entitled Dance Your City, where dance troupes from across the country were encouraged to submit videos of themselves performing in front of local landmarks. Junior Boys from Coventry’s Freeman Dance School entered this competition as 2-tone gangsters performing to The Specials’ hit single Gangsters – watch their video here. The boys were voted competition finalists and will go to London on 2 Mar to dance it out along with 5 other groups for the chance to perform on the Queen Elizabeth Hall stage. As a recognition of their success so far, we’ve invited the boys to show their moves on stage before the first performance of Elektro Kif here at Warwick Arts Centre on Tue 6 Mar.
The Freeman Dance School boys will also take part in our post-show opening night event where we are inviting the public to stay on and watch local freestylers and breakdancers body pop in our Theatre Bar accompanied by a live DJ set from Open Circles Radio Host Tha Nomad.
So come down to Warwick Arts Centre to witness the phenomenon that is Elektro Kif on Tue 6 Mar and support Freeman Dance School as they take a turn on our main stage – and why not make a night of it by staying on for our exciting FREE after-show event?
