Summer Season of Films - Now On Sale

Thursday 21 June 2012

Some of you have been asking us about our new season of films, and we are pleased to let you know that our July-August cinematic offerings are now on sale! Whatever the weather decides to do this Summer, you can rely on our excellent programme of films here at Warwick Arts Centre.

We have a number of smart comedies to tickle your fancy, from Friends with Kids reuniting many of the Bridesmaids cast for an emotional comedy about the trials of parenthood, to the uplifting Seeking a Friend for the End of the World and God Bless America in which Liberal America bites back. Also, we can’t wait to see Rebecca Hall cast completely out of type in Lay the Favorite.

Film buffs and Woody Allen enthusiasts should check out Woody Allen: A Documentary. It took director Robert B Weide over 20 years to convince the notoriously private legend to be his documentary subject, and the resulting film is a must-see. There’s also a fascinating documentary about Donald Trump’s attempts to build a golf course on an unspoilt stretch of Scottish landscape, and the local residents’ efforts to stop him, in You’ve Been Trumped.

As always, we have picked some critically acclaimed foreign films for this season, including Jury Prize-winning Polisse set in the Child Protection Unit of the Parisian police. The Oscar-nominated Monsieur Lazhar is a deeply moving film about a middle school class’s struggle to cope with the death of their well-loved teacher, and The Players sees the award-winning team behind The Artist shine the spotlight on the thorny topic of male adultery. Fans of Scandinavian drama will want to take a look at A Royal Affair, a lavish costume drama from Denmark; and the Norwegian King of Devil’s Island.
