5 Cinema Highlights for November 2024

Posted
Tuesday 29 October 2024

This month we welcome some of the most eagerly anticipated releases of 2024, from epic scale action sequels to this year’s Cannes Palme d’Or winner. November has been a difficult month to choose just 5 highlights and if we had the word count, we’d keep going!

Anora

Winner of this year's prestigious Cannes Film Festival Palme d’Or, Anora (From Fri 1 Nov), is Sean Baker’s best work yet. Anora is a thrill-ride about the currencies of life – love, sex, money, and green cards – and their cross-cultural appeals, featuring an Oscar tipped performance from Mikey Madison.

Seven Samurai

We’re pleased to present a stunning new 4K restoration of Akira Kurosawa’s monumental tale of heroism and humanism, Seven Samurai (Sat 2 – Tue 5 Nov). Celebrate 70 years of this tour de force that has inspired countless classics and regularly ranked as one of the greatest films ever made. A must see on the big screen.

French Film Festival

We welcome back the French Film Festival UK to our screens throughout November and early December (Fri 8 Nov – Mon 2 Dec). Now in its 32nd year, French Film Festival UK presents the best of French cinema. We’re pleased to screen 4 titles this year featuring French classics and new releases.

Blitz

4-time Oscar nominee Saoirse Ronan stars in Blitz (From Fri 8 Nov), the new wartime epic from Oscar-winning director Steve McQueen (12 Years a Slave). With incredible visuals and a dramatic soundscape brilliantly evoking the bombed and burning capital, Blitz is a moving tapestry of British life during the conflict’s decisive moments.

Black British Pioneers: Then And Now

As part of our 50th anniversary festivities, Rebels With A Cause!, we welcome a special season, curated by Tosin Alapafuja, celebrating Black British Pioneers within performance arts, photography and music. Black British Pioneers: Then and Now (Sat 23 and Fri 29 Nov) is presented through 3 programmes of shorts featuring archival works and contemporary films. Each programme can be viewed separately or appreciated as a complete season.
