Come and Play with the Music Centre and enjoy a whole host of opportunities to try, watch and enjoy music throughout the week.

In the week 4-9 March, the Music Centre will be running a series of events open to students and staff of the University and the wider public. Many events are free to attend and there will be opportunities for you to get involved as well as sit back, relax and enjoy some of the incredible talent we have at the University.

Visiting artists Shruthi Rajasekar and Nate Holder will be on hand throughout, hosting talks, workshops and open rehearsals around the central themes of performance, process and participation.

Tuesday 4 March

Chamber Choir Open Rehearsal
5 - 7pm, Mead Gallery, Free

The University of Warwick Chamber Choir will be doing a special open rehearsal in preparation for their concert on 5 March in the beautiful surroundings of the Mead Gallery.

Wednesday 5 March

EP in a Day Workshop
1.30 - 4pm, Foyer, Free

A takeover of our regular Workshop Wednesdays where we will be trying to create an EP in one session! If you produce, play, write or sing music of any style then come on down and help to create some new music and meet some like-minded souls.

Artist Talk: Shruthi Rajasekar and Nate Holder
6 - 6.45pm, Mead Gallery, Free

World-renowned composer Shruthi Rajasekar and international musician and author Nate Holder will be discussing their individual music practices, processes, identity and partnerships in music in what promises to be a fascinating, unique conversation.

The University of Warwick Chamber Choir: Myths and Mysteries

This concert pairs Vaughan Williams’ Mass in G Minor, a masterpiece of spiritual reflection, with an exquisite selection of choral works inspired by the enchanting realms of myths, legends and spirituality. With music by Ola Gjeilo, Thomas Tallis, Caroline Shaw and Charles Villiers Stanford, an evening of beautiful choral music awaits.

Thursday 6 March

Open Mic
6 - 8pm, Foyer, Free

Our open mic session will be hosted by the inimitable Prav with support from Brown Space. Open to singers, poets, instrumentalists and everyone in between. You can sign up in advance here or just turn up on the day.

Our fantastic Musical Theatre society’s take on Cole Porter’s 1934 Masterpiece. The S.S. American ocean liner sails between New York and England. The passengers include Reno Sweeny, a popular nightclub singer and former evangelist who is set on helping her friend Billy Crocker win the love of his life, Hope Harcourt. The only problem is, Hope is already engaged to someone else. With the help of a second-rate conman, incredible tap numbers and faked identities can Reno unite the two lovers? And maybe even find love of her own?

The University of Warwick Piano Society: Chopin Concert

The University of Warwick Piano Society presents their annual Chopin Concert featuring a programme dedicated exclusively to Frédéric Chopin, one of the most famous composers for piano globally. Join them for an exploration of Chopin's vast repertoire for solo piano, with a demanding programme full of masterpieces performed by an array of talented pianists. You will get to experience some of the Polish pianist's well-known favourites as well as some of his lesser-known gems.

Sunday 9 March

Musical Picnic: Sara Colman
11am - 12.30pm, Foyer, Free

Vocalist and composer Sara Colman makes her Musical Picnic debut. This session is primarily aimed at young people aged 3-8 and their adults but is open to all. Sara will be bringing a fantastic band with her to take you through jazz standards, her own songs and more. This will be a great gig even if you can’t get a young person to bring you along! Join the University of Warwick’s Symphony Orchestra and Chorus for a stunning afternoon of musical collaboration at their Spring Concert.  

This special performance features the powerful On the Waterfront suite by Leonard Bernstein, evoking the dramatic tension and emotion of the classic film, Shruthi Rajasekar's Sarojini, a dynamic choral work celebrating the life and legacy of Indian activist and poet Sarojini Naidu, plus University Concerto Competition winner, Isaac Laing performing Haydn's 2nd Cello Concerto.
