French provocateur Alain Guiraudie returns with a rural homecoming fable mixing passion, crime, mushrooms and bedroom farce to dizzying effect.
Guiraudie’s wildly diverse films (including Stranger by the Lake) always show his flair for witty provocation and a fascination with the untamable nature of desire. In the weird, earthy, unforgettable Misericordia, a young man returns to his childhood village for a funeral, setting off a chain of intrigue involving a jealous son, some intrusive police and a priest with an unorthodox take on transgression.
