Black British Pioneers: Then and NowA selection of documentary archival works, looking at the lives of Black British Pioneers within the arts - in celebration of those behind the camera, the visual artists who inspire, who shift culture and create new worlds. The photographers who are simultaneously storytellers and archivists, the designers and painters who actualise their imagination.
An ode to the storytellers and pioneers within the visual arts - from photographers to designers, the selection of archival titles in this strand speak to the unique experience of various Black British artists across visual mediums, shedding light on collectives, communities and the stories intersecting race, class, sexuality…posing the question of what it means to navigate through the world as a creative, in which spaces do they belong and how we can look towards a future that loudly champions and respects the important, significant role of the artist.
