Black British Pioneers: Then and NowA selection of documentary archival works, looking at the lives of Black British Pioneers within the arts - shedding a light on dance as resistance in the late 70s, a celebration of queer nightlife and the dance floor, as well as those who dedicated their time, energy and craft to making performance arts accessible to youth in their local communities.
A selection of films guaranteed to have you moving! A dedication to performers and those who paved the way for the dancers, actors and musicians of today who can brave any stage, engage any crowd and encourage cultural shifts. Though the purpose and role of an artist may at times be questioned, over time, one thing has remained certain - the movers and makers are revolutionary. To be able to simultaneously entertain and allow people to forget their worries, all the while reflecting the times, is a skill like none other. Let’s celebrate those who came before with these archival works honouring the legacy of Black British performance artists.
