Chineke! Chamber Ensemble

The Chineke! Chamber Ensemble present Wynton Marsalis' modern reinterpretation of Igor Stravinsky’s 1918 masterpiece, A Soldier's Story (L’Historie du soldat).

Premiered 80 years later, Marsalis’ A Fiddler’s Tale is composed from a later 20th century musical perspective, with the writer introducing elements from jazz, blues, tango, waltzes and rags into the classical gumbo.  

Narrated by Josie d'Arby and accompanied by principal players from Chineke! Orchestra, the story follows a talented young fiddler, Beatrice, who makes a deal with the Devil.  

Exploring themes of temptation, artistic integrity, and the corrupting power of fame, it’s a powerful parable for our starstruck times.
