‘The Citizen Kane of British pop movies’, Richard Loncraine’s cult classic returns to UK screens for its 50th anniversary.
Slade in Flame both confounded and delighted audiences on its original 1975 release, at the height of the glam-rock band’s success. A darkly cynical, warts-and-all portrait of a band in freefall amidst the music-industry suits who want a piece of the pie was not what anyone expected. Hailed as a stone-cold cult classic over subsequent decades, with its razor-sharp screenplay, superb performances and power-packed, foot-stomping soundtrack, Slade in Flame has been newly remastered by the BFI from the best available 35mm materials in celebration of its 50th anniversary.
