Conductor: Shiyeon Sung
Violin: Johan Dalene
Sibelius: Nightride and Sunrise
Tchaikovsky: Violin Concerto in D Major, Op.35
Rimsky-Korsakov: Scheherazade, Op.35
Young Swedish-Norwegian violinist Johan Dalene (winner of the prestigious Carl Nielsen Competition 2019) and trailblazing South Korean conductor Shiyeon Sung join The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra for a night of rousing performances.
Opening is Finnish composer Jean Sibelius's single movement nature-inspired Nightride and Sunrise - a strident nocturnal journey culminating in a rejoiceful dawn.
It’s followed by Tchaikovsky's only violin concerto – considered one of the most important works ever written for the instrument – and Rimsky-Korsakov's exhilarating and colourful Scheherazade suite, based on the Arabic folk tale collection One Thousand And One Nights (aka The Arabian Nights).
Pre-Concert Talk
Before the concert there will be a pre-concert talk for £5 (£2.50 for Orchestral Package bookers). If you'd like to attend, you can book this directly via Box Office. More details about the talk to follow!
